Robbie, thanks for your comments and your endorsement of our musical/vinyl credentials! Unfortunately on two occasions recently, one or other of our DJs, in a fit of extra enthusiasm, managed to blow fuses in the main PA (and even melt a fuse housing). This was the cause of the lack of volume during your visit. My apologies!
However, I can promise that we are as dedicated as ever to doing what we do so compellingly with a couple of record decks between Thursday and Sunday. We are planning to have a little play around with the system over the next weeks, with a view to ensuring that:
1/The music is as happening and funky as anyone could wish
2/There is always at least ONE part of the pub where people can talk without shouting
3/Good quality (undistorted) sound at suitably high volumes is delivered to the central main area of the pub.
4/Nobody melts the system
Ultimately, whoever is Duty Manager at the bar at any given time has the final say on all aspects of ambience, and can be approached anytime you feel that something is not right.
Hope that answers any concerns.
Patrick, General Manager.

“Yo Steve and Gang,
Thanks for the EIS and everything else you’ve done so far. Great effort and appreciated.
Don’t normally feel the need to join a forum or even pass a view but – the DJ Volume thing is verging on the ’bloody ridiculous’ surely
Is The Bell not the West’s premier music pub?
Is The Bell not a pioneer of vinyl weekends - Thursday > Sunday.
Whoever is on the decks, it is always well thought out, interesting, enlightening and better than silence (or a MP3 random selection, surely).
I particularly went down early on Saturday with a mate, primarily to enjoy Mick & Bruno’s eclectic mix of old & old. But, sat at the Bar – we couldn’t hear anything!!
The Bell is a bloody music pub for Christsake and, if people want to talk and not hear anything then, I am sure nearby Hudsons Bar has empty seats?
Anyway – rant over!
Thanks again,
RobbieF.”
